Letter 0 – Heads Up

Mate,

Consider this fair warning.
You’ve been at it long enough — talking over me, dragging me into spirals, second-guessing every move. Sometimes you’re useful (I’ll give you that), but mostly you’ve been a loud monkey at the wheel of my ship. That ends here.

From now on, the terms change. You don’t get to captain. You don’t get to dictate. You don’t get to hijack me with every “what if” and “you’re not enough.”

But I’m not firing you either. You’ve got a job: run the engine room, keep the systems humming, sound the alarm when something’s off. Be the good, helpful intuition you were meant to be. We work together — captain and crew — or we both end up on the rocks.

Here’s what’s coming: a series of letters. Each one will take on one of your favourite tricks — “not good enough,” “they don’t like you,” “don’t even try,” “you’re falling behind,” “you’re going to lose your job.” Sometimes I’ll be kind, sometimes blunt, sometimes funny at your expense (and mine). But the goal is always the same: to remind you we’re on the same team.

Heads up, mate. You’ve got mail coming.

— Me
